Guided monitoring setup

Check what your PostgreSQL monitoring needs

Check six monitoring extensions and modules, review missing permissions, and get setup steps for your provider. Optional installation runs during the scan only when you enable it.

The usual Postgres monitoring onboarding is a scavenger hunt: which extensions are installed, which are available, which can you install as this role, which need a parameter-group change on your managed provider. Assign a collector and run a scan to see supported checks. Some changes require privileges or a planned restart before monitoring data can accumulate.

Scans your database

Connects, detects installed and missing extensions, checks your role's privileges, and reports exactly what is needed for full monitoring — in one pass.

Auto-install safe extensions

Auto-install is off by default. Opting in authorizes CREATE EXTENSION during the scan for available pg_proctab, pgstattuple, pg_buffercache and pg_visibility, when your role has sufficient privileges.

Provider-specific instructions

For managed databases, MyDBA shows the exact parameter group change or console step — not "edit postgresql.conf" on a platform where that isn't possible.

Auto-detects your cloud

Recognises RDS, Aurora, Neon, Supabase, Cloud SQL, Azure, Aiven, Render, and Railway automatically. Every recommendation is tailored to the detected provider.

Explicit opt-in for installation

Leave auto-install unchecked for a diagnostic scan. Enabling it authorizes eligible installations when you run the scan; there is no separate SQL approval step. Preload, configuration and restart changes remain manual.

Re-runnable at any time

Run it on day one, then re-run after every Postgres upgrade or when adding new databases. The connection page always reflects the current extension state.

6 extension and module checks

pg_stat_statements, auto_explain, pg_proctab, pgstattuple, pg_buffercache and pg_visibility. Broader product monitoring for other extensions is separate from Setup Assistant coverage.

Updates capability status

After the scan reports results, connection capability flags can update. Useful findings depend on collector assignment, permissions, configuration and accumulating workload data.

Clear status per extension

Installed, missing, wrong version, or unavailable on this provider — every extension is tagged so you know exactly what to chase.
